Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year! Everyone stays at home, indulges in family time and so on. But what if you’re not into Christmas? What if you’re alone? It happened to me once.
I was in Dublin, waiting patiently for my flight to get home in time for Christmas. The departure hall was cramped with people waiting for their flight to board. That didn’t bring down my optimism, I had merely 30 minutes left till boarding. I found an uncomfortable empty spot on the cold stone floor and sat down. After a while, bad news reached me over the PA: due to snowfall the runway had to be cleared first, and we were looking at an hour delay at least. After an hour passed, I noticed flights started boarding. Slowly, the departures hall was getting emptier. Then, a woman over the PA abruptly ended my train of thought, and announced my flight was canceled due to the arrival airport being closed because of heavy snowfall. There was no possibility to reschedule, and I knew of no other (affordable) way to get home. Result: I had to spend Christmas alone…!
