This Monday we feature the rich, cinematic sounds of Slofan. His track Nature is an intricate mix of acoustic timbres mixed some cutting edge synthetic sounds. This combination makes the composition feel very organic, and creates and very fluid mix, also helped by some great production. We caught up with Slofan to discuss how he came to use MAGIX software and what inspires his music.
When I was a little bit younger than today I played the bass guitar in a rock-jazz group for some years. Then I started my studies and there was a long, long break – no music :-(. In 2011 I rediscovered my passion for making music. On a CD of a PC magazine I found a test installation for MAGIX Music Maker. It was easy to handle and offered a lot of features – so I ordered MAGIX Music Maker 17 and it was bundled with Samplitude. First I used both programs, after a short time I felt Samplitude suited my needs better. For a few weeks now, I am a happy user of Samplitude Pro X.
How did you come up with the idea for this project?
Short story for my song “Nature”: My music is the result of real pictures and short stories that come into my mind based on these pictures. I often travel by train – looking out of the window and listening to music. What I see outside sometimes “matches” the music I’m just listening. With “Nature” and my other songs I tried to get those pictures and stories into my music.
What advice would you give other music makers who would like to go in the same direction?
Advice for music makers, hmmm … OK then:
1. be authentic
2. open mind and open ears
3. look out for honest critical listeners
4. spread your music to different people
5. you do not have to be “mainstream” – unless you want that 🙂
6. find your own style and do not be surprised that others think it’s awesome
7. last but not least – do not follow all advice
Don’t forget to check out the rest of Slofans work on his SoundCloud page, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do 🙂
